Article 1 (Purpose)

These Terms set out the rights and duties of the Company and users regarding the use of Linku's location-based services provided by SIKOREA (주식회사 에스아이코리아, the "Company").

The Company is a location-based service provider (위치기반서비스사업자) under the Act on the Protection, Use, etc. of Location Information (위치정보의 보호 및 이용 등에 관한 법률) (report number 제1868호 to the Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission (방송미디어통신위원회), October 28, 2026).

Article 3 (Description of the Service and Fees)

The Company checks the user's current location (latitude and longitude) reported by the device about every 5 minutes while the app is open on screen (it is not checked in the background) and shows it on the user's own map. Unless a meetup is being shared, this location is not sent to the Company's servers. However, when the map shows your position, the area you are viewing and your IP address are passed to the map vendor (Kakao for the Korean map, Stadia Maps for the overseas map) as map tiles for that area are fetched, and the coordinates are passed when the area name or address at the center of the map is looked up. When you open the chat room location-sending screen, your device's current coordinates are passed to look up the address of your current location (this happens even before you press send). If a user turns on location sharing in a confirmed meetup, from one hour before that meetup starts until it ends (if there is no end time, until three hours after the start), their current location is saved on the server and shown on the maps of other participants who have turned on sharing and who are in the same group or are connections. If the app is closed, the last location sent stays visible until sharing ends. If a user chooses a location in a chat room and sends it, the location at the moment of sending (latitude and longitude) and its address are saved on the server and shown on the screens of that chat room's participants, and the coordinates and address are deleted after 24 hours (along with the coordinates in the confirmation records). People who join the chat room later cannot see it.

The address and coordinates of spots a user registers are saved, and spots set to public (new spots are public by default) are shown on the maps of members of the same group and connections. Spots set to private are not shown. When a spot is newly made public or a public spot is moved more than 50 m, a notice line saying so is left in the group chat rooms the user belongs to (coordinates are not included, and the spot name is visible only while that spot is public), and for this the coordinates of the spot as last announced are also saved. Location is used for meetup place proposals.

Map display and place search and address lookup outside the Republic of Korea are provided through the service of Stadia Maps, Inc. (United States). The user's device requests these directly from the vendor, and coordinates do not go through the Company's servers. When you search for a place on the overseas map or choose a point on it, the search terms and the coordinates of the map center, and the coordinates or place identifier of the chosen point, are passed, and when you open the location-sending screen, your current coordinates are passed. Coordinates inside the Republic of Korea are not sent for address lookup or as a search reference point. If you save a chosen address and coordinates as a spot or meetup place, the Company keeps them (spots under Article 8).

The Service is free.

Article 4 (Use and Provision of Personal Location Information)

Public spots are provided to members of groups the user has joined and to the user's connections. By joining a group, by sending a connection invite that is accepted or accepting an invite received, or by sending a connection request that is accepted or accepting a connection request received, the user is deemed to have designated the members of that group and that connection as recipients of their spots. Current location is provided, only when the user has turned on location sharing in a confirmed meetup, only to other participants in that meetup who have turned on sharing and who are in the same group or are connections, and only during that meetup. By turning on sharing, the user is deemed to have designated those participants as recipients; the names of participants who have turned on sharing can be checked on the meetup screen, and past provision can be checked by viewing the confirmation records under Article 5. If a user sends a location to a chat room, the user is deemed to have designated that chat room's participants (at the moment of sending) as recipients, and the location sent is shown in that chat room as a message, so the recipients and the date and time of provision can be checked immediately.

Provision of spots stops to those people when the user leaves the group or removes the connection, and to everyone when the spot is made private; provision of current location stops when location sharing for the meetup is turned off, the meetup ends, or the user and that participant can no longer see each other; and provision of a location sent to a chat room stops when the user deletes it or after 24 hours. Apart from information passed to the map vendors in Article 3 for map display and place search, and destination coordinates and addresses a user passes to an external map app by pressing directions (Privacy Policy, Section 5), personal location information is not provided to any other third party. However, if an investigative agency makes a request through a procedure under the law, such as a warrant, the Company may provide that user's records confirming collection, use, and provision (including coordinates).

Article 5 (Records Confirming Use and Provision)

The Company automatically records, in its location information system, records confirming the collection, use, and provision of personal location information (the time collected, the meetup or chat room it was provided to, and its participants) when a location is saved, when a location is sent to a chat room, and when a participant turns on sharing during the sharing period so that participants can see each other's location, keeps them for 6 months, and then destroys them. However, records of a user whose preservation has been requested by an investigative agency by official letter are kept with coordinates for that period (1 year by default, 3 years at most) and then destroyed. Records from before October 16, 2026 list the groups provided to, under the standard at that time.

Users can view the records on request.

Article 6 (User Rights)

Users may at any time withdraw all or part of their consent to the collection, use, and provision of personal location information (by turning off the device's location permission, turning off location sharing for a meetup, deleting a location sent to a chat room, making a spot private or deleting it, leaving a group, removing a connection, or deleting their account). On withdrawal of consent, personal location information (coordinates) is destroyed without delay. However, records confirming collection, use, and provision (the time, the meetup or chat room it was provided to, and for records before October 16, 2026 the groups) are kept under the law, with coordinates deleted, until the end of the retention period in Article 5. During a period in which an investigative agency has requested preservation, coordinates are kept until that period ends and then destroyed, even if consent is withdrawn or the account is deleted.

Users may ask to view or be told of records confirming collection, use, and provision and to have errors corrected.

Article 7 (Guardians)

Because anyone under the age of 14 may not sign up, the provisions on the rights of guardians (보호의무자) of children aged 8 or under and others do not apply.

Article 8 (Retention Periods)

Current location is saved only while being shared for a meetup and is overwritten by the new location. It is deleted immediately when sharing or the device's location permission is turned off, within 10 minutes at the latest when the meetup ends or the user and the other participants of that meetup can no longer see each other (a connection is removed or a group is left) (if sharing is on for another meetup, it stays until that sharing ends), and immediately on account deletion. Spots are deleted when the user deletes them or deletes their account, and the coordinates last announced for spot notices are deleted with them (they are deleted when the spot is made private). For a location sent to a chat room, the coordinates and address are deleted 24 hours after sending (within 10 minutes at the latest) (along with the coordinates remaining in the Article 5 records), and immediately if the user deletes it or deletes their account before then. However, during a period in which an investigative agency has requested preservation, the coordinates in the Article 5 records are kept for that period despite the above (the location shown in the chat bubble disappears as usual).

Article 9 (Damages)

If the Company violates location information laws and causes a user damage, the user may claim compensation, and the Company cannot escape liability unless it proves it was without intent or negligence.

Article 10 (Disputes)

For disputes over location information, a ruling (재정) may be sought from the Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission (방송미디어통신위원회), or mediation may be sought from the Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee (개인정보분쟁조정위원회).
